Legal Imagination Studio

At the Strother School of Radical Attention, we believe that free attention takes many forms — deep, elusive, fleeting, curious, focused. Law, on the other hand, operates within rigid structures, shaped by historical constraints and enduring imbalances of power.

In the face of technological forces that frack our mental and sensory capacities, urgent questions arise about the role of law and regulation in protecting human attention from commodification. How can the law intervene to foster a richer vision of attentiveness? What if legal frameworks could be reimagined to align more closely with collective human flourishing?

Join us with legal scholar and Attention Activist Vitória Oliveira on Thursday, May 1st from 6 to 8:30pm for our LEGAL IMAGINATION STUDIO in the Dumbo Sanctuary.

Our approach will be experimental and imaginative. We will critically situate the global battle to protect attention in the context of existing law and policy, recognizing that these  tools' narrow focus on individual liberties makes them ill-equipped to address broader collective demands. To that end, we’ll approach law as a material for speculation and possibility — to imagine futures in which legal structures and the cultivation of collective, sustained attention are meaningfully in sync.
