What’s that one little thing you can’t stop wanting? Maybe it’s the peacoat that slows every stroll past the shop window, or the trip you keep hinting at, or perhaps, as in Tove Ditlevsen’s short story, it’s the silk umbrella a young woman can’t stop fantasizing about.
Many of us can name what we want. Few are willing to ask what’s underneath, or why the longing holds on so tightly. Is it the want itself that that keeps us in its grasp, or perhaps something deeper? What are the roots of our desires? And once they’re found, can we accept them — and ourselves — as they are? Join us as we take a small longing seriously by venturing to ask what our desire says about ourselves.
