Sidewalk Study: MOM, I’M STUCK IN AN ESCAPE ROOM

  • Chelsea Market 75 9th Avenue New York, New York, 10011 United States (map)

In "Exit and the Extensions of Man," media theorist Sara Sharma argues that our media culture has produced a new structure of feeling: the desire for exit. Media provides both connection and escape, illuminating our shared world while simultaneously deepening our dissatisfaction with it. What is reality but a personal arrangement of vignettes, and what happens when technology offers us new ones on demand?

In this study, we'll explore our own daily rituals of “exit” — dancing, dining, doom-scrolling, city-wandering. As Sharma inquires: “Can we stay put to fix us a way out?”
