At nearly 500 years old, “Old Survivor” is the last remaining old-growth Redwood in the East Bay of California. “Too weird” and “too difficult” to process for logging, Old Survivor teaches us the lesson of resistance-in-place: how to make oneself useless to the capitalist value system, and push back by refusing to move.
Join us at Brooklyn’s oldest tree (!), where we’ll draw from two of our most beloved and evergreen texts, unsettling the boundaries of the individual to pursue different ways of existing in, resisting, and constructing new worlds. How can we collaborate with Brooklyn’s eldest rooted being, Oakland’s Old Survivor, and the rest of the beyond-human world?
