What moves us to take a photo? Can using a camera really draw us away from ourselves? Is the practice of photography a reminder of our own mortality? 

How do our desires and dreams for the world influence what we decide to capture? And what do the images a photographer creates tell us about who they are and what they hope to see? 

We will tackle these questions and more with the guidance of photographer and author Tim Carpenter (plus a few philosophers). Perhaps we'll get to the root of what he means when he says "To Photograph is to Learn How to Die."
