Sidewalk Study WASHINGTON, DC: REMEMBERED RELATIONS

David Abram’s Becoming Animal invites us to inhabit a sensate, earthly cosmology: sniffing, touching, prowling, taste-budding our way towards remembrance of our creatureliness. We are but one sibling in a familial web of relationships, called to practice a literacy of landscape beyond the text. Words, even these very words, are for Abram a mental apparition that dissociate us from place, from body, from our embeddedness in the more-than-human world.

This study will walk us to the edge of our sensorial comfort zone, where we’ll explore what it’s like to be a turtle or an elephant or a bird of prey … the inhabitants of the Smithsonian zoo await!
