Date with Tea

Chinese culture likens tea to people, treating them with the same respect and attention one would a person. While people express themselves with words, teas expresses itself in flavors. In this experience, participants went on a ‘date’ with a tea, over multiple teas and brew methods as they explored using their sense of taste for personification, as well as unearthed and shared the memories of stories that informed their personal taste vocabulary. 

Chang (they/them) is an artist-researcher, facilitator and taste geek. When not distracted by a new sparkling idea, they are working on their graduate thesis at NYU Gallatin on companionable sensory practices for cultivating an aesthetic mindset.
