Sidewalk Study: TRUE BLUE

From sea to sky, blue is one of our most beloved colors. Its most distinguished hue — ultramarine — is a pigment that was once considered more precious than gold. Spanning rare to banal, physical to emotional, natural to man-made, blue carries within it many histories.

Color enshrines our lives, inspires and enables our art, and can both command and personify our emotions. It has also been at the center of wars and colonial subjugation in humanity’s ongoing pursuit of its raw material. So, is it true that we make blue? Or could it be that blue makes us?

Part of this Study will take place ON THE STATEN ISLAND FERRY!
