To whom does the world really belong? For novelist Richard Powers, author of the 2018 epic novel, The Overstory, trees are the main characters in the story of planet earth, with our species playing a bit role.
Putting plant life at the center of the narrative requires a radical reorientation of attention. What does human existence look like from in the canopy, or under the soil? In this study, we will explore the only extant old growth forest in Brooklyn and attend to what the world looks and feels like from the perspectives of our rooted neighbors.
