Beneath the shimmering surface of things, there is often more than meets the eye. Under layers of grit, grime, and glitter, a vast network of entanglements shape our world — both for the better, and for the worse. This Study asks us to examine the physical world as we know it from the worm’s eye view of a mushroom — the fruiting bodies of fungi indicative of an underground city of filaments, alive just beneath our toes. Following fungi into this “woodwide web,” we will ask what it looks like to live in intimate association with others (species, humans, things) and how to survive in an increasingly precarious world.
