In an intensifying culture of bodily optimization and de-aging, our clothes aren't the only things capable of falling out of fashion; our bodies might, too. In this Study, we’ll explore cultural viewpoints spanning the 10th CE Chinese practice of footbinding to more contemporary views on body image in Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance. 

In this Study, we explore how particular ages, figures, shapes, and physiques become culturally desirable, and what it feels like when the body we inhabit moves beyond them.
