Stories are powerful cultural vessels. Yet so often they are diminished by dominant narratives of conflict, conquest and death. What gets lost when the only story worth telling is the killer story?
In this study, we'll look at a folk tale from the Zapatistas through the lens of Ursula K. Le Guin's Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction, and ask: What worlds become possible when we unsettle what Le Guin names the ‘killer story’? What if small, everyday acts of care and sustenance that keep the world turning were central to our heroic narratives?
