Sidewalk Study BedStuy

Text: Rhythmanalysis by Henri Lefebvre

Guides: Amber & Connor

Place: BedStuy

French Marxist sociologist Henri Lefebvre's Rhythmanalysis proposes that close attention to rhythm (broadly understood) is a powerful method to analyze and understand the realities of everyday modern life. The cyclic and repetitive nature of rhythms becomes, in Lefebvre's work, a conceptual framework to think about information, media, infrastructure, architecture, and biology. Who knew that nodding to the beat could be so revealing?

We'll read from Lefebvre's text and then head into the streets to discover what deliberate attention to rhythm can reveal about our shared world.
