In a sprawling epic spanning lifetimes and bloodlines, Steinbeck argues that the most redemptive part of the human experience is our ability to choose. That in the face of good or evil, vice or virtue, pursuit or resignation, you always have the heroic choice. To defy your instincts, your past, or your circumstances. 

In this Study, we’ll attend to natures. What does it mean to live by your nature? To be constrained by it? To defy it? How do other objects in the universe correspond to their natures?
