In her persuasive book, The Next American Revolution, Grace Lee Boggs shares a lifetime’s worth of wisdom on "sustainable activism” and what it takes to organize community-based alternatives to isolating economics of despair.
Across our politics, and in DC particularly, the axis of our tensions tends to be reduced to the framing of Left versus Right. What if, as the revolutionary heroes in the ilk of Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., and Gandhi taught us, our true struggles fall along much deeper fault lines: the battle between competition and cooperation; between technological achievement and spiritual humility; between materialist concerns and beloved community?
In this first ever DC Sidewalk Study, we’ll scour Embassy Row for signs of this human revolution in-waiting and practice seeing with eyes of the heart.
