Text: Designs for the Pluriverse by Arturo Escobar
Guides: Kyle & Czarina
Place: Williamsburg
Escobar's Designs for the Pluriverse reimagines design as a practice for the "pluriverse": a world, in the immortal words of the Zapatistas, "where many worlds fit." This is, at bottom, a project of ontology — that is, the study of being (and of how we decide what is and what isn't.) Ontology, in Escobar's hands, is a tool for imagining the possibility that there are many "worlds" on this planet of ours.
Can many worlds fit in the world we're building? There's only one way to know. Join us as we think about (and enact) how such a radical conception of design might work in practice.
