Text: Ambient Television by Anna McCarthy
Guides: Amber & Staoue
Place: Penn Station
Writing at the turn of the century, Anna McCarthy was an early and prescient observer of the ways that screens (television) had come to occupy nearly all of our public spaces. Her book, Ambient Television, is therefore a kind of pre-history of the proliferation of smart phones, and the inescapable influence of screens on human behavior and social life.
In this practice, we'll experiment with the psychogeography of the public screen — and think about how new relationships to our screens can serve as a kind of democratic redesign of the spaces where we live and play.
