Join artist Leigh Davis for a screening of short videos followed by an invitation to explore singing practice as a ritual for collective mourning. This event both activates Leigh’s installation at SoRA and extends the spirit of her ongoing public activations, such as Karaoke in the Cemetery, recently installed at Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery, a platform for participants to express and share in grief responses through song.

Leigh Davis (Brooklyn, NY & Washington, D.C.) creates interdisciplinary work to explore elements of mourning and the spaces we embody in bereavement. Through a combination of artistic inquiry, hands-on engagement, and training in end-of-life practices, her projects aim to reveal grief as a form of lived knowledge: both deeply personal and profoundly collective. Her filmic essay Inquiry into the ELE was exhibited at BRIC Contemporary Art (Brooklyn) and Vox Populi (Philadelphia), and site-based installation Vigil and Feeling Tones was featured at Green-Wood Cemetery (Brooklyn). Her ongoing project Karaoke in the Cemetery brings karaoke to cemeteries across the country, creating a platform for participants to express grief through singing together. Leigh has also exhibited at Open Source (Brooklyn), EFA Project Space (New York), Oliver Art Center (Oakland), and Grizzly Grizzly (Philadelphia).
